Celebrating My Birthday with an Extraordinary Team of Swimmers

Birthdays are special occasions filled with joy, love, and the opportunity to create lasting memories. As a coach, I have been fortunate enough to spend my birthday with an extraordinary group of athletes - my swimmers. In this blog post, I want to share the heartwarming experiences and meaningful connections that have made celebrating my birthday with my team one to remember.


Who said swimming sessions couldn't be filled with sweetness and fun? We recently embarked on a whimsical adventure with a swim session featuring a Birthday doughnut-themed session. In this blog post, we invite you to join us as we look back at a playful and tasty twist on our training routine. Get ready to indulge your senses and experience the joy of swimming intertwined with the mouthwatering allure of doughnuts! Get ready to feel the FOMO and embrace the joy of our swim session while enjoying the mouthwatering allure of doughnuts!


  1. Warm-up Delight: We kicked off our doughnut-themed swim session with a delightful warm-up routine. Imagining what lied ahead the colourful sprinkles, we stretched and prepared our muscles for the water. Dynamic stretches took on a playful twist as we embraced the sweet anticipation of what lay ahead.

  2. Glazed Speed: Next, we picked up the pace with the Glazed Speed set. Embracing the silky smoothness of glaze, we dove into a series of fast freestyle sets. Channeling our inner doughnut racers, we visualised the speed and finesse of perfectly glazed doughnuts, effortlessly cutting through the water.

  3. Jellyfish Drills: Finding Flow and Flexibility just as jelly fills a doughnut, we incorporated Jellyfish Drills to help us find flow and flexibility in the water. These drills focused on rhythm, body roll, and fluid movements, mirroring the graceful sway of a jelly-filled delight. We embraced the jellyfish's gentle undulations, discovering newfound ease in our strokes.

  4. Sprinkle Sprints: A burst of energy awaited us with the Sprinkle Sprints. They swore against the vibrant and colourful sprinkles in this set, as we dashed through a series of short, high-intensity intervals. Embracing the excitement and playfulness of sprinkles, we propelled ourselves through the water with newfound enthusiasm.

  5. Doughnut Kick Sets: It was time to unleash the power in our legs with the Doughnut Kick Sets. Emulating the circular motion of a doughnut, we performed kick sets, focusing on generating strength and propulsion. Visualising the perfect ring-shaped doughnut, we symbolised the power and control we possessed with each kick.

  6. Cool-Down Bliss: As the session came to a close, we indulged in a dreamy cool-down as all Nanna's and Nannu's alike would dream of after a tough session. Floating effortlessly on a creamy cloud, we savoured the tranquility and serenity of the water. Engaging in gentle stretches and relaxation exercises, we allowed our bodies and minds to bask in the post-swim bliss and indulged in real tasty doughnuts provided by the one and only Ta' Doughnuts Qormi.

Conclusion: Our doughnut-themed Birthday swim session was a delightful adventure that added whimsy and lightheartedness to our training routine. We fully immersed ourselves in the joy of swimming while embracing the sugary sweetness of doughnuts. Treating ourselves to the delectable combination of swimming and doughnuts brought smiles to our faces and left us feeling satisfied.
